Hong Kong, November 14, 2011 ‐ Dr David Robson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tethys Petroleum Limited (“Tethys” or the “Company”) (TSX:TPL)(LSE:TPL), the only independent oil and gas company operating in three of the Central Asian republics, is honoured to be appointed as a Director on the Board of Pacific Basin Economic Council (“PBEC”), an organisation committed to expanding trade, investment and business links in the region and actively engaged in the process of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (“APEC”).
Dr Robson was invited as an industry expert to speak at the Asia-Pacific Business Symposium PBEC/EWC/APEC Conference in Hawaii onWednesday, November 9, 2011. Dr Robson’s presentation focused on the Central Asian natural gas industry and the supply of clean energy to East Asia in this Symposium organised in conjunction with the APEC meeting of the region’s leaders.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Robson said, “It is my pleasure to be appointed as a member of the Board of PBEC. With the significant economic growth in the Asia Pacific region, strengthened cooperation and connections among business leaders will definitely further enhance this development. As a member of the Board, I look forward to helping achieve PBEC’s mission to promote significant growth and prosperity in Asia Pacific as well as working on supplying clean energy to the East Pacific rim.”
While APEC gathers top officials around the world to discuss national economic and trade policies, PBEC focuses on business issues. Established in 1967, PBEC has been committed and actively engaged in promoting free trade and investment through open markets leading to regional economic cooperation and development. PBEC has promoted and facilitated a platform for ongoing dialogue, cooperation, and policy discussions between the region’s leading business figures and government leaders. The Board of PBEC is currently comprised of 15 members, with Mr Wilfred Wong SBS, JP, recently being elected as the Chairman of the Board.
Supported by the APEC 2011 Hawaii Host Committee, Asia-Pacific Business Symposium PBEC/EWC Conference brought together business leaders from around the world to discuss various topics related to trade, sustainability, and other issues of importance to the region. This year’s conference was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, in conjunction with the APEC CEO Summit.
